Chic Report decamps for Milan in mere days, so when we heard that L’Wren Scott would be hosting her first-ever trunk show at Barneys New York, we capitalized on the opportunity to meet/greet the designer while picking up a few choice items to fortify us through the European collections. On the store’s storied 3rd floor (Hi, Narciso. Is that you, Jil?) we walked past Ellen Barkin (lounging in a chair) to chat with the designer herself, sporting the skintight trousers from her Spring collection that are sure to impress longterm boyfriend Mick Jagger. Fresh from her presentation, shown to editors in New York, Scott’s Barneys appearance preceeded her flight back to Los Angeles by mere hours. “It’s been a long week, but very satisfying,” she said. “We sell our collection to buyers before showing it to editors, so it’s not nearly as stressful.” Perusing the floor-length bandaged cocktail dress and rhinestone necklace-encrusted tanks and cardigans was Julie Gilhart, sporting that colorful diamond-print Zero Maria Cornejo dress that so many Chicettes are coveting this season. Also: A handful of rather serious shoppers–you know, the ones that come avec assistant and place five-figure orders. Naturally, we’d take one of everything, but we left that to Barkin and Co.
