Chic CFDA Countdown: Thom Browne

‘Tis the third day of our CFDA nominee/honoree profiles. Next up: He-of-the-short-pants, that eternal lover of seer, Mr. Thom Browne. Will you make us a jacket? If we promise to wear it with mini-shorts? Without further ado:
Where were you when you heard the good news from Mr. Kolb?
I was in Tokyo! I was there for an event for Brooks Brothers.
How did you react?
Probably with some champagne. That’s how I always celebrate. I usually drink Krug, but I love a lot of different types.
Who are you bringing to the awards?
Miki [Higasa].
How do you plan to celebrate if you win?
Probably go out with everyone I work with. It’s the team that helps make it all happen! We’ll probably go to one of our usual spots.
And they are?
I’m the worst creature of habit. Il Cantinori, Norwood for drinks with the guys, the Spotted Pig…but primarily Il Cantinori.
What does the award mean to you?
Being able to do what we all do is such a luxury; to know that people know what you’re doing and respect it or appreciate it is really rewarding. Also, to be in the same category with Michael [Bastian] and Tom [Ford], it’s an honor.
What’s on deck for Thom Browne?
I’m continuing with the Black Fleece collection. And I’ve got something else coming out in the next year–a collaboration, but I can’t really talk about it. My collection will always be first and foremost. And I’m going to focus more on women’s.
