Back in February, Chic Report sent out a mini reporter (and editor of her own mag, newly named Maggie-Zine) in the making to give us her insider view on all things Fashion Week. Needless to say, Maggie Hemphill loved her experience at the Tents so much she’s back again this season to send us her scoops. Enjoy!
Hi Daily Gang!
I know you’re trapped in office on deadline, so here’s your junior reporter giving you some inside dish straight from the Tents!  Today was like every other Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week…CRAZY!  I love to be back at Bryant Park for all of the excitement and chaos! Today I wore my favorite outfit ever!  It was a plaid high-waisted skirt, a ruffle blouse and a navy blazer.  My first show of the day was Lacoste, which was a great kick off to my week.  The Georges Chakra show was next.  I didn’t know much about this line before today, but now I love it!  The show featured simple silhouettes in neon shades with very funky, futuristic details and glitz.  Next, I went to the Andy & Debb show.  The collection as a whole was very sophisticated, with modern, clean elements.
What was the hottest ticket of the day?  Christian Siriano!!!  This was the show that I was most excited to see.  The lobby of the main tent was overwhelmed with people trying to get into the show.  I was heartbroken when I was told that there was no space, even for standing room, but luckily, at the last minute, the Fashion Gods found a tiny spot for me!  The show was everything the crowd anticipated and more!  Of course, the best word to describe the collection is definitely FIERCE!  When Christian ended the show he got a much deserved standing ovation.  At this show I got to meet one of my ultimate fashion idol, Nina Garcia.  I was so excited!
Aside from the fantastic shows, many other great things happened during my day.  The Tents were, as always, perfectly decorated, with beautiful exhibits.  Throughout the day I met some amazing people including Miss Jay Alexander, The Real Housewives of New York City, TV Chef Lisa Garza, Kelly Rowland, and Tim Gunn. I got a chance to interview up and coming accessory designer, Isaiah Garza, for a feature in the next edition of my magazine, Maggie-zine!  I also met a 14-year old aspiring model, Amber, who has agreed to be my first live cover model!  I can’t wait!
I noticed some major trends both on the runway and in the crowd: an ’80s comeback, teased and heavily sprayed hair, oxford shoes, over the knee boots, studs and leather, and different kinds of hats.  From the Tents, to the people, to the excitement of Fashion Week, it was, overall, a very tiring but absolutely fabulous day!  I can’t wait to go back tomorrow!!!  Wish you were here, I’ll keep you posted!
xoxo,
Maggie
