An Evening With Amanda Leigh
Chic Report has harbored quite the crush on Mandy Moore since her Candy days, but we adore her even more today as the seriously chic married lady (well done, Ryan Adams!) who’s just released her sixth studio album, Amanda Leigh–her given name. “It’s always sort of an evolution, right?” she said of the album at her release party, thrown by Coach, at Avenue last night. “It’s sort of a throwback. It has a kind of ’70s influence, because that’s all I really listen to! Joni, the Beach Boys, Wings, Todd Rundgren…it’s kind of this melting pot of all of those fused together.” Chic had to know: would the newlywed taking any pointers from her new husband–or collaborate with him anytime in the future? “We’ll have to see,” she said coyly, “but right now I think we’ll just stick to the supporting roles for each other.”
Though her friend, Coach creative director Reed Krakoff couldn’t make the bash, he was certainly there in spirit: Krakoff shot the cover art for Moore’s album. “We’ve always had a really great relationship, working and otherwise, so when I finished the record and thought of what I wanted the cover art to be, I just sort of immediately thought of him,” she said. “He had this idea without even hearing the music, trying to capture me in a way that I’ve never really gone before. This record means a lot to me, I was trying to make sort of a classic pop record, and so the cover art is really just right on.”
