If you haven’t figured out the Michelle Obama styling pattern, here it is: when she’s holding hands with the President she goes for Jason Wu, when she’s meeting world’s most important people, she opts for Isabel Toledo. To meet Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, the First Lady opted for a beautifully understated black and white Toledo ensemble that Ruben Toledo happily called “a royal flush.” And the designer herself couldn’t have been more excited. “Mrs. O. looks 21st century modern,” she told Chic Report. “I adore this kind of background dressing, like my husband in his tux. It’s no-fuss elegance, cool and crisp, and I love the high hair and Alaïa sweater. It’s time for grown-up elegance!”
