J’adore Joop!

It’s Chic Report’s tradition to pay a visit to the eternally dashing and eloquent Wolfgang Joop backstage at his Wunderkind show each season. And what was he inspired by this time? “It’s the contradiction of controlled and uncontrolled,” he said. “I was moved by everything from a leaf from an oak tree near my maison to pictures of dead animals from the Cairo museum. The controlled side was motivated by the constructivists’ movement of the last century. Gosh, I’m talking like I’m 200 when I mention the last century!” The conversation then turned to the other places he’d like to visit. “I would love to go to Prague because it’s a city that I miss and admire,” he quickly decided. “Plus, I’m not crazy about crowded beaches and seashells! And airplanes don’t make me that comfortable.” So what does Joop love about his job? “What motivates me every day is the feeling that I’m gifted and educated,” he smiled. “And there’s no time to be depressed or be afraid. I don’t knock my head on the table and scream, ‘Aspirin! Aspirin! Aspirin!’”
