A Moment With…Jane Moore at the CFDA Awards

When Daily darling Jim Moore told us that his mom Jane was making the trip from Minnesota to celebrate her son’s Eleanor Lambert Award, The Daily requested an interview. We caught up with Mme Moore Monday night during the dinner portion of the evening while Marc Jacobs, Narcisco Rodriguez and Justin Timberlake congratulated her son at Alice Tully Hall as the CFDA Awards wound to a close. (Wait–is that Michael Kors in the background?)
So Mrs. Moore, how did it feel to watch your son receive such an honor?
I had tears running down my cheeks. It was wonderful. I had no idea he was so well-liked! When he comes home, he never brags about anything, so I took it for granted that this was just a job. This really proved to be so wonderful, I’m so happy I’m here.
At what point in Jim’s life did you realize he was going to be successful?
When he was young, he airbrushed a huge picture of Margaux Hemingway. He was really interested in design. When he was in art school, he even designed some clothes. Back then, it was pretty hard to say goodbye and send him off to New York; it really was. But he had to follow his dreams, and I encouraged him–I said, “You have to go where all the action is.” And you know, the Midwest doesn’t have much fashion.
Has Jim ever given you fashion advice?
He’s kind of let me do my own thing. Actually, he will tell me if I’m wearing something I should be or shouldn’t be, but really, I can’t say that he’s ever said anything bad about what I was wearing. He’s a positive guy.
