Return to Origins

Allure’s editor in chief, Linda Wells, uses a lot of beauty products. Like, a lot a lot. So does Origins SVP Jane Lauder, so does Gossip GirlsKelly Rutherford–and let’s be honest, darlings–so do we, and so do you. But what of all the garbage that comes of it? Between the packaging that gets thrown out and the empty tubes, tubs, and vials, beauty was getting a little bit ugly–and that’s when Origins stepped in. Yesterday, the brand launched its nationwide cosmetics recycling program, Return to Origins, where ALL beaty packaging, regardless of brand, can be brought to an Origins store (or the Origins counter in a department store), where it will be recycled. The three lovely ladies celebrated the launch of the initiative yesterday morning by inviting everyone to pitch their old products in a dumpster at General Motors Plaza. “I think everyone has to do their part in a small way, but what’s great is that you don’t have to be perfect,” said Lauder. “You can do little things, which is what we’re trying to say to people today.”
