Tim Hamilton Sees What He Sees

“What you see is what you see,” Frank Stella once said. The artist was theorizing about his sixties-era “Black Paintings” like the Tuxedo Park Junction and Double Vee Pinstripe that broke new grounds in a decade of minimalist, colorless compositions. The quote–and the moment–inspired Tim Hamilton’s spring collection; admire the results for yourself. He looked to the masculine and the feminine dualities of design by introducing a luxurious and comfortable fabrics that are phenomenally well-tailored. Boys like these could come out of a classic Avedon work, or play a role in one of Thomas Struth’s famous urban photographs. “I wanted to create shapes that are gender ambiguous but inherently masculine,” said the designer. “Spring 09 is my take on futuristic street wear where boundaries are erased.”
